I have not yet had time to read another page, but in thinking about a handshake that an upperclassman gave me as I was leaving the Naval Academy, this poem came to mind as I wondered about reparations for both of our peoples.

Black bilged-out Plebette,
Admiration , encouragement,
Shock, appreciation :
Still reverberating
Thirty years and 3 peninsulas later,
Down the line of a sincere
handshake.

What an appropriate book to be reading on Constitution Day as I reflect upon how my job is contributing to fully free public education for all and I am grateful for it and the state of California to whom I swore an oath.

Interesting that the tome with the 44 page index could manage to leave out anything related to reparation, and also mentioned changing the economic base of the South, but not in favor of former slaves. It's blindingly clear that leaving former slaves out of the property system put them back at the bottom permanently.
