'Liath looked hard at Mellas, then into the graying air--& for a moment it seemed that a reflection of his pale face glanced back at her from the trees, elongated, eyeless. A travesty of his blanched child's face. It was gone before she could blink, her eyes retaining his pale visage, seeing its echo in the wood. They were alone, shivering in the intermittent spray of rain, wary of their own fire.'

Ehhh...undecided on this one. I'll give it another go tomorrow, after a better night's sleep. The prose is good & the magic is cool, but pacing is uber-slow & I'm not sure I care enough. It could be tired brain syndrome; it could also be that I don't really like it. >:P

'He bathed to remove the stink of carrion. She would find it distasteful, & he had need of her tonite. She had long maneuvered to share his bed again. If she provided the information he sought, perhaps he would accommodate her, this time. He donned fine black leggings, velvet doublet, black silk-lined cloak that fell in folds rich as shadow. Suitable garb for these dark hours.' ....What a charmer. :D
