Sorry to hear that. I said that I took it with a grain of salt. I guess I met the few good ones who don't fit your description. It just breaks my heart to see Americans following in their footsteps. I also felt so lucky to live in America. I felt safe here until T got elected.

Chicago does have a high murder rate but it isn't the highest. Several cities are worse. The murders here are mostly in a few neighborhoods here. The reasons for it are tragic and need to be dealt with. Nevertheless, Chicago has gotten an unfairly bad rap especially since T became President. What does that have to do with anything anyway? I just live here but I don't think I'm contributing to the causes of high murder rates in the area. That's a whole other subject. There are many factors - inadequate gun laws, economic inequality, drug gangs, ridiculous laws re: drugs, etc. I am not defending Germans, BTW. Just saying that right now Americans don't seem any better.
