The start of the book tells how Herbert wanted peace, and didn't want the United States to get into the war in Europe. He started a Young group, which was infiltrated by communists, and he didn't know what he should do. He went to the FBI to tell them what was going on, and they wanted him to stay in the group, and let them know what was going on.

The stories were made into a TV series, that I used to watch.
