I'm not even at chapter 1 and I'm already a little irritated. I understand that the author, a book editor for a major publishing house, has a breadth and depth to his knowledge of ideas; but I do wish he would have consulted with a historical sociologist for some of the claims he makes about "human nature." He even contradicts himself between pages xxiii & xxv. Hopefully this will have been an anomaly.

He even contradicts himself between pages xxiii & xxv. I'm in a couple of chapters now and after a bumpy start it is getting really good.
