Was kinda nostalgic, but even if it wasn't, it was fairly gripping. A decent example for young adult books.

I wish you were a bit more subtle Mr. Pullman. I can see how you got inspiration from Spanish Inquisition. BTW Why is Malcolm going around working for free for everyone?

This is definitely a book for younger audience, so don't expect layers of meaning (like an alethiometer, haha). There are enough things to make you keep on reading.

It seems as though Pullman couldn't decide to assume if the reader has already read HDM or not. It has enough open mysteries to make you keep reading.

So far it lacks the subtlety of Pullman's first trilogy. You know right off the bat there's some resistance going on. As opposed to slowly getting sucked into the battle of opposing ideologies. So far it has great examples of 'show, don't tell' that many can learn from.
