I would recommend this series. The plot of the book is very intriguing. Also, because of the age of the characters, it makes it easy to relate to all the things that they lost during the invasion. One thin I really am enjoying about this book is the way the author wrote it so that you are reading from different perspectives and not just one. This change of perspectives also allows to learn more about each character

One of the characters is Ben Parish. In the beginning of this series Ben was described as a popular guy in school who seemed to have it easy in life. Now that i reading the second book I can realy see how much he has matured. After being in a refugee camp Ben became more independent and more head strong. However now, he has lost this. The people around him are beginning to take pity on him due to his injury.
