Digging this more than I thought I would for a random pick at the library book sale. Lots of familiar tropes (plains tribesmen, dwarves in their tunnels, a young thief on the streets of the city) but they are presented in new ways that keep me reading, and the characters all feel pretty alive so far.

Recapping the same thoughts and concepts over and over is getting annoying - we get it dude, you feel useless without your dream powers - but overall still enjoying the ride.

Like how this is swinging back and forth between the people under siege, the dwarves acting as the bulwark, and the exiles crossing the ocean about to be thrust into the whole shitstorm. There's a bit of that unnecessary recapping of feelings and events you get in a novel of this length, but overall really like this so far.
