I'm deciding on the perfect gift for a friend (who I know partly through a feminist book club) who's having a baby. I want to get her a feminist themed book for her baby girl. Any suggestions? I don't know much about literature for kids younger than middle school!

What about Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls? I even want to read it myself (actually there are two books now), but I haven't been able to justify the cost...but for a friend's kid, it would be a very thoughtful gift! Or: The Paperbag Princess is perfection, and I heard there was even a movie coming out. (Spoiler: She rescues the prince from the dragon, but doesn't marry him because he's a jerk.)

It is extremely weird that you mentioned those two, because that's exactly what I was considering so far! I heard some controversy about some of the women featured in Goodnight Stories For Rebel Girls, so I'm not totally sure about that one since I haven't read it myself.
oh, man, i didn't know! i should look into it more then. maybe that's why there was a second volume? Matilda or Madeline then? paperbag princess is still my fave. :D
We have really similar taste! Matilda is my all-time favorite kids' book, and I've read it a bunch of times with little kids that I've tutored or taught. I didn't think of Madeline, but that's another great idea. I think I'm definitely going to go with The Paper Bag Princess! (I'm thinking of being the main character for Halloween, actually, hahaha)
