I am not sure why everyone has such bad reviews for this book. Obviously it's not Rebecca but it's a gripping and emotional story nonetheless. It is slow but beautifully written and while her thoughts and the events are a bit trivial that is just her character. And while Maxim is just awful, the way she deals with him and the reactions and emotions she suppresses is relatable and powerful.
