As I continue reading the book, I realize that Rowling develops the characters more with every turn. Every new experience turns over a new leaf and a new situation that the characters must get out of. The reader plays an active role in their own interpretation of the novel.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione are becoming more and more independent from one another. They are facing their own issues and maturing. I think this book and the next will contain a great deal of character development.

The characters themselves have not changed as much in these pages, but the reader can see what they think of the world around them. There are some references to things in past books.

The students are learning to communicate more. They are making connections, maturing, and growing into themselves. The differences between them in book 1 vs. in book 4 are astounding.

New opportunities are presented to the Hogwarts students. They are growing and maturing, and seem to be more aware of the events happening around them.

Rowling has the ability to change the tone with ease. One moment can be easygoing, while the other is concerning. The traits of the characters are emphasized, and we can understand them and their logic more.

The pace is still fairly slow, and the book has been focused on events unrelated to Hogwarts. I wonder if these events will present conflict. It would be interesting to see problems that stem from something outside of the school.

At this point in the novel, we can analyze the friendship that Harry, Ron, and Hermione share. They truly understand one another, and trust one another fully. They are fairly kind to one another, regardless of their past fights.

The characters aren't offering their point of view as much. New characters are being introduced, and the wizards are proving to be quite funny. The second and third books included a lot of character development, but there is less in this one.

As the series progresses, I am beginning to learn and understand some of the behaviors that the characters have. Several characters are developing rapidly, and the changes are visible in this book.
