Hamilton's "Kaldar, World of Antares" opens with a hoot! I'm guessing there's some good action ahead, but this setup is great example of why I do not read this silly stuff!

Otis Kline's story is a smiler. Innocent grand old other-planet adventuring. The kind of story I'd have been delighted and enamored with once upon a youthful time. Nowadays it's worth a smile and nod, then on to bigger and better tales.

"The Moon that Vanished" is an awesome story filled with wonder, power, excitement, terror, lust and love, and struggles of self and will and desire. great adventure tale. only quibble is how easily the big, bad tossed the towel in at the close. all else is a wonderful example of heroic storytelling.

Norton's tale was refreshingly simple. Garin was an honorable hero who was also simple. some darkness here, easily glossed over in all the creativity and simpleness.

I am not well-read in Andre Norton, but I am certainly enjoying "People of the Crater"!

Great old classical flowing storytelling with wonderful lines like, "But can you pipe your way out of hell, barbarian? Can you?" (Poul Anderson)

The Groupreads S&S annual anthology read seems a great time to finally read this long-owned title that many of my S&S comrades deem so highly.
