The main character ran outside because her friend was ok after his dad punched him. After her mom found out about them seeing each other in the house every once in a while so the mom fired the nurse for allowing them. The mom hired a new nurse that is not as caring and kind to be around.

Enjoying the book so far, I've learned that the character can't ever breath the outside air, touch another person, or eat certain foods without some sort of reaction. The book introduced a new character that she is falling in love with.
