Barber has taken the familiar conservative justification for defying the federal government, states rights, and spruced it up with a 21st century feeling of cosmopolitanism and is calling it city rights. I sympathize with his goals, but don't think he'll have any better luck with this line of reasoning than did John C. Calhoun.
