Maybe Mayella thought that the man was trying to make a move on her? She has been in this situation with her father a few times now so maybe this is normal for how she acts around older men, just this time she got caught doing it. Mayella doesn't seem like the person to lie unless she really had to but from what I know she has had a rough past and its not easy for her right now.

Boo Radley killed Ewell but didn't really? Boo Radley was the kid everyone was afraid of or curious about who he really was, or if he even really did exist. He had a good mind to want to stay inside away from the dangerous world around him. Why would he come out and save Jem and Scout? Did he think people would hate him less, or stop thinking he is scary?

Mr. Raymond tells Scout that when Dill grows up he won't cry about the simple hell people give other people without even thinking. Cry about the hell white people give.
I think he says this because hopefully in the future we won't have to worry about these problems and differences between colored people. White people being cruel seems to be more of a problem than others being rude.

Mr. Raymond has been drinking coca cola the whole entire time when we all thought it was beer. He does this because it gives him an excuse to be the way he is and to act different.

Like in class when we talked about our Harkness discussion and tried to understand the fear of the unknown and how that has an effect on what we do in the world. How gun shooting affects what people do after and how it made people afraid of what could happen next. He was afraid of being something he didnt want to be known to be.

I would never understand how Tom Robinson felt. He was scared to be harmed and afraid that if he made the wrong move he would get punished for something he swore he didn't do. Back then you had to watch out what you said because it would change the way people saw you and since he was being blamed that he did something he was even more afraid. This is like fear of the unknown. Youre scared of all the possibilities.

I had a feeling that her father was abusing her and she needed fingers to point so she wouldn't get her father in trouble. She stuck up for her dad and I think she did it because she was scared that she would not be able to get out of what she put herself in and her father would do something even worse than what he might be doing at home.

At the end of chapter 18, Mayella is asked if her dad abuses her or is she is in a relationship with him that is inappropriate. She seems very hesitant to answer the question but when she does it seems like a straight up lie. Atticus doesn't seem to believe it and I sure didn't as well. Maybe she thinks its normal for her father to hurt her the way he does, or its been happening for so long she just goes with it?

I'm confused on the whole which side I would pick. I don't understand why a 19-year-old girl would try to start something between a man who does her work and her. Would she really try and pretend that he "raped" her or is he really telling the truth?? The older man seems very truthful but why would Mayella lie just to get into so much more? Is this what she wanted to happen?

If I were to compare myself to a character in the book I would say I'm Scout. She is a brave, strong, and a carefree girl. She never really listens to what people tell her and she likes to be herself. She has a mind of an older woman but can act like a little kid. She is an inspiring girl who reads even when she's not supposed to. I take risks of brand new projects and I enjoy doing adventures stuff.
