Later in the book Jonas tries to escape the place that he is in. He takes Gabriel with him too because he does not want him to be released. At the end of the book Jonas sees animals and wildlife but then he starts hallucinating. The snow was freezing him and he hears music but it was just in his head and then Jonas and Gabriel are gone.

Later in the book the Giver is giving Jonas a memory of the warfare and Jonas doesn't like it. Then he left but came back. He then realizes what love is and he asks his parents if they love him and they say to no to use that language; and say if they enjoy him and they say yes.
