I met someone on the train while reading this who said he'd gotten to page 50 and they were still in the shire so he'd given up on it. I'm now 85 pages in and although they're in the woods on the edge of Hobbiton somewhere with some elves (so not that far) plenty is happening. I'm picking up all sorts of interesting little bit of information about Hobbits and Elves that I didn't get from the film.
