Hallelujah! I think where I left off before was something of a tar pit. It felt monotonous as if it was ramming home the pain of Jon's betrayal, and it did. As soon as a kraken came into the picture, things picked up and the story felt like it was finally moving somewhere again. As if I was waiting for a delayed bus and it finally arrived, albeit late. Things look more promising now!

(60%, chapter 44), I am peeved. So far, Jon is just floating between women and Rielle with Brennan. It has the feel of a story being deliberately dragged out for the sake of length alone, filling the space with calamity and the unwanted musings of this Drina. So many spanners being thrown in the works with no sign of a qualified plumber. I am having to force myself to keep reading in the hope it improves. 3/5
