I really want to like this book, but getting through it is painful... It feels like a first draft. Interesting plot but very rough.

I am having a really hard time reading this book... I heard that these were good by a number of different people, but the writing makes it hard to get through. The story is somewhat intriguing so I'm pushing through, but it's slow going so far...
