While there are occasional moments where I feel drawn in to the story, I largely find this book to be pretentious drivel. Egan had an interesting idea and I love the different ways she manages to tell the story, but unfortunately none of the characters are very interesting and I can't help but have the opinion that Egan is trying (and failing) is trying to impress her readers with her "brilliance."

AVfoGS is an award-winning book but I'm really not sure why. I don't find it to be a very enjoyable read at all. The characters are all little more than cardboard and only a few of their "adventures" are mildly interesting. I'm very disappointed and hope I didn't pay full price for this book.

Thus far I don't like it very much. The first chapter started off well with klepto Sasha, but then it shifted to Bennie who I didn't find interesting. We then got another POV change as it shifted to Rhea back in 80's San Francisco. Each chapter has interested me less and less; hopefully it shifts back to Sasha and/or her therapist because I was actually interested at that point in the book.
