Osmotic pressure, electrical conductivity, vapour pressure, melting points are markedly different if the solvent used is sugar or salt. Raoult's and Arrhenius' observations could be justified if one considers that the salt molecule has dissociated into individual ions. This again hints at atomic nature of matter.
