Peter, the main character spends his time in the annex with his mom and dad and the Frank family for a lot of World War 2 while the Nazi's were putting Jews and extermination camps. Towards the end, someone ratted out their hiding spot and they got taken to a concentration camp and its all from the point of view from Peter, a 16 year old boy who's world got all turned around.
