They all have said there reasons for going to Vietnam. One soldier says it was to prove he wasn't a "fag". One wanted to get out of the projects he was living in and another was drafted. There is already racial tension. A white soldier and a black soldier have been going at it and the other boys have to break them up. The Lieutenant died and it was the first death many of the boys had seen in Vietnam.
