Front and center with this new volume is a new costume. I can't say I'm fond of it. I can understand inasmuch there have always been people complaining about Wonder Woman showing too much skin, and perhaps she does comparatively, but this swings too far the other way: it has a turtleneck! Also there's a big, red letter V over her crotch – her Superman S I suppose – which I hope stands for Victory... hopefully.

I don't expect Shakespeare, but I at least want some nuance and dynamism in my dialogue, especially at this level. This all reads like badly translated manga. Also, I don't get all the crying blood. Last volume Diana was all shocked when she, as the god of war, would wake up literally with blood on her hands. But all this bloody weeping is treated like normal. I get the effect, but what is this? a YA vampire romance?

I have no idea why, but Meredith Finch suddenly decided to crank the accent dial up to eleven. Zola, who's from Virginia, is now ultra redneck. Also there's this new girl street urchin character who sounds like a chimney sweep from Mary Poppins. It's fuzzied my brain, man, because all the accents I've ascribed to characters in my head have turned out to be nowhere near as ludicrously thick as they ought to be!

I've finally unlocked the Finch game plan! Fill pages and pages with stuff that doesn't matter at all, but looks cool, so the pages devoted to things like plot and character development are drastically reduced. That way you can stretch very little actual story over an entire book! Also, boy is Diana a Mary Sue. I'm now rooting for the villains, with the hope that in her defeat Diana might actually become interesting.
