It might help to read a short book by Henry Chadwick, Augustine. It explains his life, and his thought on major topics. This may give you some courage to pick up where you left off.

Thanks for the comment, Richard. I've been plowing through it recently. Just finished the 7th book yesterday and started the 8th today. It's one of those books that you just have to pick up and force yourself to read, but it's proving very rewarding.
