This book is making me happy on an aesthetic level -- a love triangle played out in the arena of the occult. The young heroine channels spirits to help her in her performances; her uncle happens to be an expert in "magnetic-dynamics", and the Svengali-like character with the great name of Maddox Challis has "some skill in higher magnetism." And then there's the phony Countess Adrian... what joy!
