So well put. This also applies to any being that needs to struggle for existence and has enough sentience to have a conscience. Morality or the struggle to be on the right side of it is indeed a handicap in the struggle for existence, as much as one may like it not to be.

I loved Jack London's White Fang so much, it was in my top 10 reads of 2017. Beautiful prose and an emotion-stirring story of a wild wolf that let's itself be domesticated.
The Call of the Wild is the story of a domestic dog that adapts to the wilderness and joins a wolf pack, the polar opposite of White Fang's plot.
