Dr. Daniel Cooper is a truly demented psychopath. I'm not sure he feels anything other than his love of killing, especially with a knife. He felt his murders needed a theme, so he went with urban legends. After Daniel had gotten a deer, they all sat around the campfire eating, drinking, and telling scary urban legends. Tom and Pete, his 2 "friends" didn't know young Daniel had killed before.
