There's a lot of Nightwing in this book so far. I think Snyder might be partial to him as a character, as evidenced in The Black Mirror, which aside from being one of the best Batman stories ever written, is hands-down the best Dick Grayson story. Here he more or less plays Watson to Bruce Wayne's Sherlock Holmes: someone to speculate with and relay information to, where pure monologue would feel out of place.

The whole conceit of the New 52 reboot doesn't work with Batman. Supposing he's only been active for five years, this means that over this time he's gone through four Robins: one who accrued enough experience to strike out on his own as Nightwing, one who was beaten to death, and subsequently resurrected, one who now was never a Robin, but still was in all but name, and one who is his pre-teen son. All in five years.

I have a tendency to put off reading modern classics. Certainly this book counts as one, being among the highest rated comics on Goodreads, if not one of the most celebrated of the past five years. Maybe it's that I want to keep these in reserve for rainy days when I'm in the doldrums of some reading slump or down mood; also there's the risk of disappointment, and thus the extension of said rainy days. But here I go.
