Frank never came to terms with who he was or he never figured out right from wrong. From his family and friends turning a blind eye to these actions from when he was younger how could Frank know right from wrong? David learned more from his Uncle's actions, then he learned from any other family member. I think this was because early in his life his Uncle meant more to him than his father. David has fully matured.

I ponder the idea of Grandpa Hayden asking those men to get Frank out of there as a sign of fake love. I personally think if Grandpa Hayden wanted Frank out of there so bad, he would have done it himself and talked with reason. This to me was a sign of a coward who can not keep a relationship with his sons. Does he really love Frank or is this all just an act? How will Wes react to all of this? Who's the favored son?

I had mixed emotions about what Wes did. Was it the right move to not bring full custody to his brother? For me this was like packing a sandwich for a long day, being hungry and only eating half of it. I could connect with how David felt about his father seeing him in a weak position for the first time of his life. As young boys we look at our father as a strong man who carries himself high. I think this scars David.

I now can understand why this was such a tragic chapter in the book... How do we react when the loved ones around us pass? For me I think David looked at Marie like an older sister instead of someone who just cleaned around the house. When Marie died I feel like Frank's life was not tampered at all when he was the one that could have saved her life. Why did she not leave? Why end the chapter like this? I feel lost.

Frank and Wes have seemingly become closer and are spending more time with each other. I wonder if Wes is trying to get more information and proof out of him to make an arrest? Or is he is still trying to figure out what he wants to do? David has become more understanding of his dad's stance and is now fully understands the struggles his dad is going through Would David have shot the bullet if the gun was loaded?

The book has me looking in a positive direction when I see the compassion and the goodness in David's heart. He cares so dearly for Marie even when he is under the conclusion that his father Wes and his uncle Frank are racists. "I turned the radio on and raised the volume, hoping that Marie would be able to hear music when she woke." I think David's crush on Marie has formed differently, into him taking care of her.

The book has taken a twist where I can no longer compare the book to my own personal life because the boy in the books dad has a brother that is a psychopath, but I can make a comparison with the book to my own life because the family has some skeletons in the closet that the boy is now starting to figure out. This is REAL to me because every family has to face these problems.

I am finally getting a little bit more context about the boys family. The dad seems to have been given the occupation as a cop because of the family man and the grandpa seems like a real power hungry gross person, but the dad seems the opposite. The mother and the father do not seem to get along and that is something I can relate to myself, being that the boy is caught in between the awkwardness of his parents.

Through the prologue and the first 7 pages I have not even gotten any context of the boy's name or his families name. I have not enjoyed reading the first seven pages because I feel it has not been connecting with the reader on why we are reading the book. The gun plays a role because the reader says the pistol is always empty. This means to me that it could be foreshadowing the father making a poor decision with it.
