The relationships and character development in this book is so complex and fully explored! I love Hoa and Essun's relationship! They are all realistic and beautiful. I'm almost done with this one and I recently picked up the third book from the library.

This story is so multi-layered and beautiful! Jemisin's writing amazing. The way she captures the nuances of what it's living as an oppressed people is heart wrenching. Little, innocent Nassun is just finding out how oppression seeps into every crevice of a person's being and changes them and the way they connect to and interact with people (even people they love) and society.

Ugh looks like I might I have to forgive Shaffa based on the way this is going...I don't want to, but damn it I can't help it. I can't wait to see what goes down when Essun finds Nassun with Shaffa of all people!!!

Robin Miles is an amazing narrator! She can do so many accents and she does them all so well!

I'm trying to figure out what Alabaster's end goal is...Has he figured out how to stop this season or all seasons for good? People kept saying how awful this book is, but I appreciate it because there is so much more going on then just the surface story.

Shaffa what happened to you in that wreck? And what have you been doing all this time? I need to know so I know if I should hate you are not.
