I hear many things about Scott Lobdell. It's a mixed reputation. I hear he ruins beloved characters. I hear he writes fun romps full of bubblegum and cheesecake. From reviews I've read, his work is quite polarizing. So, this book had my attention beyond its principle characters. I never read The New Teen Titans, and frankly Red Hood's been spoiled for me already by every writer not named Judd Winick. So... open mind.

The art here has no business being as good as it is. See, I'm a hobbyist woodworker, it's a great interest of mine. If you look at handmade furniture, particularly period pieces, you'll notice tool marks and slight inconsistencies that show the fingerprints of the craftsman: signs that the piece isn't factory-made and mass produced. This, in all its delicate, unpolished, hyper-detailed sketchiness reminds me of that.

Every Jason Todd story since Under the Hood has portrayed him as a second-rate Dick Grayson: they fight over who gets to be Nightwing, they fight over who gets to be Batman, they fight over who's the better hero/sidekick duo. He loses every time. You'd think he's step out of Dick's shadow by now. But Jason not only wears Dick's old clothes, but he hangs with his old best friend and sleeps with his old fiancée.
