A great companion book is Care of the Soul by Thomas Moore.

I am so enjoying this book. I have to read it with pencil in hand to capture the nuggets of insight she shares on each page.

Yes. A journal of solitude, indeed. We all need time to absorb and process life, even just to be still. It's scary business, but so important to our overall health. This is not Sarton's point, necessarily, but it's my take away. I love how she writes about needing solitude and, yet, is scared of it. The re-entry into quietness is awkward business: "What if I cannot find myself inside it [being alone]?" (p. 12).

There is so much goodness in this book. I'm going to need to own it, so I can refer back to it. (Currently reading a library book.)
