Phil Mixing "faith" and "logic" is akin to making a soup with both those ingredients: it leaves a terrible taste!

One would think that a "journalist" would know how to provide facts but apparently, in this case and subject matter, its missing...

Laura I really wouldn't think that Faith, grace, redemption, mercy, etc. would ever be a "logical" debate for an atheist. The Bible to most is one of the most confusing, longest books of just some nice moral lessons, and that is a factual statement to anyone who isn't a believer. However, you have probably heard Christians say that it "comes alive" once you believe and understand how idiotic that sounds to most, but that is the only way to put it into words. An example would be Shakespeare or old English finally clicking for you the more you study it, except it is much more than that to us obviously. The book I would recommend of you are looking for the scientific debates and facts on the matter would be Creation by Jeffrey. He explains it mainly from a biological perspective. Would think that would be more intriguing than this, which is basically continued testimony of a converted atheist, as you said above. Also, unveiling the mysteries of the Bible by him too. Of course, the internet makes if hard to narrow the information down, but just search one time for Biblical Prophecy vs. Secular History! Seriously..the connection and truth to the facts are crazy considering the prophecies in the Bible were written a few 100 yrs before secular history. If you like Nostradamus, just check that out!
