In the more recent parts of this book, Cora's strange relationship with Ridgeway has been detailed, and it is both enthralling and terrifying. At any moment he could kill her like he killed Jasper, but he does have some respect for her strength and ability to get as far as she did. Cora is hardened by what she has seen and done, and acts unfazed as to what Ridgeway thinks, although very scared of who and what he is.
