This is turning out to be a more layered and complexly-constructed mystery than the romance atmosphere makes it seem. Especially a silly thief alliance and oh-so-overdone "We should have nothing to do with each other but are attracted to each other like magnets". However if the criminal behind things is an ex-pupil, a kid; it is too much of a reach to see him having the international connections he'd have to have.

I enjoyed this until typified romance elements gushed all over the makings of an excellent adventure and story. A woman disinclined towards hasty decisions of any kind and romance of any kind, is not going to instantly permit someone to kiss her and not so boldly or sexually. You don't even get attracted so easily merely for an appealing physique or personality. I'm glad I know Nora Roberts writes better later on!

An intriguing premise about an affluent family's company needing their expert daughter to authenticate a bronze statue. It was found under a villa and might be an unknown Michaelangelo statue made when he was about 18. Miranda only has a professional relationship with her rigid Mother, the director in Italy. She and her restless brother run an institute in Maine, USA. Their archaeologist Father was always absent.

I have had this second-hand hardcover shelved for years. Maybe two years ago, I began organizing the smattering of Nora Roberts novels I have on hand to see which of them went with volume accompanyments. I owned what I needed for a couple of series and bought the introductions to others. Some, such "The Reef" and "Homeport", are unattached stories. I finished the former. It's time to get this one out of the way!
