Golden line- "It was a gala occasion. (In reference to the trial.) There was no room at the public hitching rail for another animal, mules and wagon were parked under every available tree.

The courthouse square was covered with picnic parties sitting on newspapers, washing down biscuit and syrup with warm milk from fruit jars.". This paragraph shows how much this case meant to the small town of Maycomb. Little happened there, so something like this was definitely something that drew a crowd.

The Ewells are a bad bunch to start off with, but it just seems rather unlikely. Then spurs the question- If Robinson did not rape Mayella, how did she get her injuries?

One question I have about the reading is: How did Mayella get her injuries? In Heck Tate's testimony, he says that he found Mayella at the Ewell residence with bruises kind other injuries all over her body. I personally believe that Tom did not rape Mayella.

So far Heck Tate, Maycomb County's Sheriff has testified, telling the court how he came upon the case and how it led to Tom Robinson's arrest. I have just begun reading the beginning of Robert Ewell testimony,Mayella's father.

Since my last update, the trial in which Atticus defends Tom Robinson has begun. For those unfamiliar, this is a case in which an African American man named Tom Robinson is convicted of raping Mayella Ewell.
