I've really gotten into reading some of the classics of speculative fiction in the last few years. Burroughs was one of the first. The dated language the hero uses is wonderful. The fiat the author uses move John Carter between Earth and Mars (he just appears there after thinkin about it) is a wonderful writing tool.
