Finny is staying in the infirmary and Gene comes the night before and cracks himself up about things that are not really funny. The next day he goes through all of his classes normally and when he comes to the infirmary the doctor tell him plain out that Finny is dead. Gene spent the rest of the book not in mourning, but becoming a new person.

After Brinker comes into Genes room and tries to convince him to be in the army Gene refuses. He convinces Finny that he wont enlist and that is the truth. Gene then tours Finny around and they stop in the locker room where Gene decides to be trained by Finny for the olympics. One time while they are training a faculty comes out and tells them that training for the war is what you need to be doing. They keep training

Gene gets accused of pushing Finny off the Branch and making him fall. Gene then asks if Brinker wants to go smoke so they go down to the Butt room. In the Butt Room they start to have a pretty heated conversation about how Gene did actually push Finny off, Gene then leaves without having smoked. The boys shovel snow off the railroad, and on the way back Gene goes into his dorm and Finny is there.

This book is at a relaxed point right now. Gene is at school and Finny is still at his house with a broken leg. While doing crew gene get i a big fight with Quackenbush and hits him in the face. Finny later calls and asks if Gene has saved a bed in the room for him and did not give it up to another kid. Gene says yes.

The first couple chapters where very hard to grasp and take in. Once Finny and Gene went to the beach that was when the book started to get a lot more exciting. I really felt all of the emotion when Finny broke his leg and how gene felt.

In the short 7 pages i have read so far since the last update we have learned a lot about Phineas. We have learned his characteristics and how he works. It helps me to imagine someone at CMS who is like him.

This book has been very interesting so far. Most of it has been a flash back about his times at the Devon School. A lot of the talk has been all about trees.
