Chapter 3: This chapter is really about how amazing Phinny is. Whether its his athletic ability or his good looks, this chapter makes you realize why Gene wants to be like Phinny.

Chapter 5: The first thing that Gene does after the incident is put on Phinny's clothes and act like him in the mirror. This shows to the highest degree the severity of Gene's jealousy. Gene tells Phinny that he shook the branch but Phinny goes into denial and refuses to believe what his "best friend" was telling him.

Chapter 4: Gene shakes the branch the Phinny is standing on and Phinny falls and shatters his legs. This action set the climax of the book, and the event is continuously talked about throughout the rest of the book. The chapter shows Gene at his worst, mean, jealous and filled with bad thoughts.( Most about Phinny)

Chapter 2: This chapter develops genes envy for Phinny. An example of his envy, When Phinny gets in trouble, Gene is filled with excitement but is disappointed when Phinny talks his way out of it. Gene was confused of why he felt that, but said that was just because he wanted someone to get in trouble for excitement. Gene wanted actually wanted Phinny to get in trouble so that he wouldn't be so perfect.
