Paul Edgecombe is a a prison guard who works at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. When John Coffey is sent there for a brutal crime, Paul is scared but also sees light at the end of the tunnel for Coffey. Other than that, not much has happened yet.

Paul seems to be very curious about the mouse named "Steamboat Willy" and thinks it is very smart. I will stop reading this book for now because it looks like nothing really exciting is going to happen and I want to read "other things."
