The characters are Hiram Hillburn, his dad, his grandpa, his mom, Ruthanne their slave, the Remmingtons their neighbors, R.C. Rydell his friend, Emmet till, and his grandma. Hiram goes to Greenwood in the summer when he is little. Then when he is 16 he goes back and everything is the same way he remembers it. He meets up with his old friend R.C and the go fishing together. Thats when Hiram sees Emmet Till.
