Well, now we’re starting to see Wilbur’s perspective on his past with that Agnes woman—and it’s bound to highlight plenty of rocky moments with his fiancée, Maggie (since it was implied they had broken up). The whole atmosphere is giving off those "Scrooge’s ghosts" vibes. 👀👀

Well, we already have an introduction to Wilbur's past—complete with a father sacrificing himself in the war and even childhood fights. In fact, the similarities to the elements of the previous book are quite striking (aside from the fact that the character in question is highly likely dead and dealing with his fate more directly).

Yeah... it's very typical of how Haig's stories start—with a high-society event and parties—followed by a situation that shifts the landscape entirely toward tragedy (this time involving the loss of a husband, it seems). Now, we just have to see how that transition plays out. 👀👀
