“… and in some way or other he takes my fear with him, for now I calmly fall asleep, and the clothes behind the door are only a pile of old rags. I sleep to escape the night that trails past the window with its train of terror and evil and danger.”

Youth: I loved this second part so much. Tove is a master of words; she writes so beautifully that it makes me want to open my notebook and finish that novel I've been trying to write for the past five years. She's just a young girl who wants to be recognized and loved, in a world that's falling apart around her. The relationship that started at the end of Youth terrifies me for this last part, but I can't wait.

Childhood : such a beautiful and yet devastating first part. Ditlevsen’s writing is just phenomenal. I feel so close to her somehow. Her deep longing for love is so touching and I just love how her relationship with her brother evolved into something healthier. I can’t wait to read the rest!!
