I really like how Smith describes the setting and action in detail. For example: "It should have been hard to see anything at all. But what he was looking for was pressed right up against the glass. Needles. Branches. Solid against every inch of the windows." In this part, they are trapped in a car covered with branches and I could actually feel the tension and imagine the situation they are in. The detail is great.

The author always mentions Damon's eyes and compares them to fire. I think that Damon might be possessed by the evil spirit that Caroline was talking to from the mirror because Damon said that he saw fire right before the spirit disappeared. Afterword, wierd things started to happen.An example is Damon's strange power because he suddenly became stronger and his eyes were different. Even Stefan( his brother) noticed.

I've noticed that the author writes very detailed and with many adjectives; but they are mostly used to describe the characters and what they are doing. Smith does a great job giving you a great picture of what is happening and of the characters, but he only gives you a general description of the setting. Overall, I'm still a little confused because smith only gives hints about Damon's important "burning red" eyes.
