This book has a great premise, but it's already dated. OIF/OEF complicate his arguments.

Christ. Sometimes the brutality of the Civil War hits me... At Spotsylvania and Cold Harbor over 65,000 men died in the course of 7 weeks. "In the trenches at Spotsylvania... a close-range struggle in the mud began on May 12, 1864, before dawn and lasted until nearly midnight; dead bodies were trampled out of sight in the sodden ground as the conflict raged on. Men were literally driven insane in this battle"
