I can see now why Ashley loves Melanie so much. It makes sense even more still why Rhett can respect her so much while belittling and rage baiting Scarlett as much as he does

I'm supposed to watch the 1939 adaption of this movie in theaters next month and I cannot imagine that, given the time period and the Hayes code, the book will be properly adapted. I mean Scarlett is highly crazy asf there's no way she'll be depicted with the same skeptical and fast attitudes she walks around with.

That chapter was so stupid intense. It felt like a season finisher. It was insanely consequential and filled with so many good scenes. We get to really get to know Scarlett and her shenanigans here. She's such a crazy charming selfish girl you can't help but love it love it

Not much happened in this chapter (4) except for more weird glazing by Scarlett about her mom. At the end she hatches a funny little naive plan to win Ashley over after realizing that he had no reason to think she had any feelings for him lol

Chapter III drags a little bit as an exposition chapter but has a very interesting revelation in the reason for Ellen's marriage to Gerald as well, as the ending bit where Scarlett goes on about how much she'd like to have her momma's characteristics but that those traits are not suitable for " having fun "

The twins make mention that they very much prefer a difficult woman who makes her intentions very unclear.
The narrator describes that Scarlett finds the very same scent of cologne, whiskey, and cigars found in her father very attractive in other men.
And Gerald mentions that “ women marry first and find love after “.
Very of the times so far but refreshing in a different perspective kinda way
