The time and place is in present day and the expectations are those of today. There is little racism and some discrimination. People are expected to uphold their moral codes of being respectful to everyone. The characters learned to be less trusting of people because they have been betrayed before. They are expected to side with the gods rather than the titans.

Gold has been mentioned as wealth. Percy Jackson has green eyes which shows hope becuase he inspires hope in others. Black is always mentioned as death becuase whenever someone die she there is something black or gloomy in the scene. Whenever Leo gets nervous or angry his hand lights on fire and that could mean anger.
