The rules of this time and place (Vietnam) are do what you want without doing harm or injustice to others. That includes prostitution and abusive public drinking. One example of people breaking the moral universe is when Jake and Sam throw another pilot onto the landing of the alligator pit. After the two pulled up the pilot, he and Sam unable to go ashore next time in port.

The setting of this book takes place in a variety of places some include inside the Intruder(in the air and on the ground), on or inside the aircraft carrier, in Honk Kong, China, and the shores of Vietnam. These settings influence the story because it determines the way people act, for example Jake must be serious in the plane while in Hong Kong he is more relaxed and calm.

The author's tone towards Razor (not the main character) is negative because he uses the following words to describe him;
1.Annoying
2.Prick
3.Cocky
These words are negative and describe Razor. When the author uses negative words to describe a character, it means that the author wants you to feel a negative tone towards the character. In this case that character would be Razor.
