Rifka's mother is very patient. For example, she waited to talk to Rifka while Rifka completed her chores. The text states, "As soon as I settled the baby down, a fevered woman asked for water. Then there were other chores that needed doing ... I kept looking over to Mama, afraid she would disappear. She didn't disappear. She sat and watched" (pg. 116). This shows how much Rifka's mom cares about and missed her.
